Alice Amelia (Matthews) Sawyer of Traralgon, Latrobe City County, VIC Australia was born in 1888 in Hazelwood to Louisa Maria (Morrell) Matthews and James Hugh Matthews. She had siblings Jessie Carol Matthews, John Roy Matthews, Minnie (Matthews) Embleton, Robert Morrell Matthews, and Louisa Nix. She married James Sawyer, and had children Violet Mary Horwood ( Sawyer, Arthur Robert Sawyer, and Florence Louise Paulet. Alice Sawyer died at age 77 years old on September 14, 1966 in Traralgon.

Ziegfeld was inspired by the Folies Bergère of Paris and the show was a step up from the then current vaudeville shows. For almost a quarter of a century, the Ziegfeld follies were the toast of Broadway.
