Alexander Baumann of Lewiston, Androscoggin County, ME was born on November 29, 1900 in Lisbon to Michael "Mikel" Baumamm and Frances Krause Baumann. He married Katherine Ricker Baumann, and had a child Michael Francis Baumann. Alexander Baumann died at age 85 years old in November 1985.

In 1900, in the year that Alexander Baumann was born, the U.S. helped put down Boxer Rebellion. The Boxer Rebellion took place in China, where the presence of "outsiders" (foreigners) was resented. The United States, along with Austria-Hungary, France, Germany, Great Britain, Italy, Japan, and Russia, had business interests in China and these countries all sent troops to put down the Rebellion and keep China open to their presence and to Christian missionaries.

In 1915, he was just 15 years old when the Superior Court in Fulton County Georgia accepted the charter for the establishment of the new Ku Klux Klan, succeeding the Klan that flourished in the South in the late 1800's. This iteration of the Klan adopted white clothing and used many of the code words from the first Klan, adding cross burnings and mass marches in an attempt to intimidate others.
