She was married to Howard Willis Chilson on October 8, 1946 and they separated in 1954, and had children Howard Rockwell Chilson, Ronald Lee Elmer Chilson, Roger Allen Chilson, Steven Faye Chilson, Gerald D Chilson, Keith D Chilson, and Debra Chilson. Alda Ames Chilson Scarborough died at age 60 years old on March 2, 1980.

    Alda was the child of Etta Ethel Marble and Leon Millard. She had 3 siblings, Elmer L, Edith J, and Iola Millard. Alda was married multiple times in her life and was mother to lots of children. Her first marriage was to Alby Ames sometime between 1936-1937. Together they had one son, Duane Roscoe Ames. Alda divorced Alby Ames on 23 May 1946. She then married Howard Chilson on 8 Oct 1946 and divorced Howard Chilson in/after 1954. They had 7 children together. Alda then took off with "Red" in 1954, taking her children Gerald, Keith, and Debra with her. The four oldest boys she left with her ex husband Howard. William and Beverly (Howards children with Arlene Baker) had already moved out, and Duane was somewhere else too. From 1954 to approx. 1978, Alda had not made any contact with her 4 older boys, but then made a trip to Tampa Florida to meet her son Ronald. Alda also had one child, Pamela Scarborough with Mr. Scarborough.

In 1919, in the year that Alda Geraldine Millard Ames Chilson Scarborough was born, the "Black Sox Scandal" rocked baseball fans during the World Series. Eight players on the Chicago White Sox were accused of throwing the World Series, thus allowing the Cincinnati Reds to win, and making money off of the losses. All of the players were found not guilty by a jury but the fallout lasted for decades. The players were banned from baseball even though they were found innocent.

In 1934, when she was only 15 years old, on November 11th 1933, an extremely strong dust storm hit South Dakota, stripping topsoil. Other strong dust storms had occurred during 1933. Severe droughts continued to hit the Great Plains and the dust storms devastated agricultural production as well as people's' lives for several years. The Roosevelt administration and scientists eventually determined that farming practices had caused the conditions that led to the dust storms and the changes they implemented in farming stopped the Dust Bowl.
