This biographical sketch of Albert Sigel Marley covers his life from birth on up until November, 1923 in honor of his dedication to the Scottish Rite organization.
"Historical Sketch No. 3" was written by Charles T. Kornbrodt, a fellow member, and was published in the "Scottish Rite Progress" in November, 1923.

Albert Sigel Marley #1
Albert attended schools in New York [City] and Evanston, Illinois and apparently worked very hard in his academic pursuits. Because his health had suffered, he chose to go to work on a farm in Ottawa, Kansas to recover, and he did. He went to live with his father
and stepmother in Kansas City, Missouri 1 Jan 1881 and got a job with the Missouri Pacific Railroad where he again excelled and rose up the ladder. At the age of 28, he married Kathleen Jacobs and in time they had three children: John Sheeks Marley, Jane Marley, and Albert Sigel Marley Jr. After eleven years with the railroad and studying the law, he resigned to practice law in Kansas City, where he became the dean among the lawyers and remained the rest of his life.

After years of separation from his wife, Kathleen Jacobs, and their children were on their own, Albert married again. His second wife was Mrs. Ralph (Caroline aka Carrie Henderson) Goodnow, a divorcee with four small children. They remained married until his death.

Albert is shown here in his law office with the name "Mr. Marley" etched on the glass panel in his door. He was considered dean among the lawyers in Kansas City when he died Jan 13, 1936 in the hospital where he had contracted pneumonia. He is buried at the Mt. Moriah Cemetery.

Albert was the attorney for Westport when it merged with Kansas City. On 12 Dec 1904, Albert married for the second time. This wife's name was Caroline Brookfield Horton, born 17 June 1882 in Chicago, Illinois, the daughter of John William Horton. She had divorced her first husband, Julian Frank Goodenow, by whom she had had five children: Julia, Willie N., Julian Frank, Jr., Elizabeth A, and Fred Ira Goodenow.

Jane aka Jennie (Sheeks) married Harvey Henderson Marley on 10 Aug 1859 and they had three children before she died 11 Dec 1866. Left to right, Albert Sigel Marley, who would marry 1) Kathleen Louella Jacobs, and 2)Caroline Henderson; Florence N. Marley, who would marry Eustace Brown; and Harvey Grant Marley, who never married.
