    Albert Franklin Duke was born on October 30th, 1890 in Spalding County, Georgia to Edmond Dumas Duke (1857 - 1925) and Sarah Jane Carter, born in 1857 and he had siblings Minnie, Joseph "Jack", and John Clay Duke. He also had ten half-siblings: Annie, Willie, James, Fannie, Claude, Gussie, Edgar, Erma, Douglas and Worth Duke. On his June, 1917 World War I draft card, Albert described himself as being of medium height and weight with brown eyes, black hair and slightly balding. Albert Duke married Umie Estelle Banks (1891 - 1970) in November of 1907 in Georgia and they had three sons: Marvin Webster Duke (1908 - 1983), Jenius Dent Duke (1910 - 1948) and Hoyt Bradford Duke (1918 - 2011).

Herman Hollerith's "tabulating machine" used punch cards to more quickly compute census information, taking the time to get census results from 8 years in 1880 to 6 years for the 1890 census. Hollerith's company eventually became IBM.

In 1933, Albert was 43 years old when Frances Perkins became the first woman to hold a cabinet-level position, appointed by President Roosevelt to serve as Secretary of Labor. She told him that her priorities would be a 40-hour work week, a minimum wage, unemployment compensation, worker’s compensation, abolition of child labor, direct federal aid to the states for unemployment relief, Social Security, a revitalized federal employment service, and universal health insurance. President Roosevelt approved of all of them and most them were implemented during his terms as President. She served until his death in 1945.
