Glenn Eanes
Glenn Eanes, 90, of 100 Tinsley Court, Danville, passed away, May 20, 2011, at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Glenn was born February 4, 1921, at Glade Hill in Franklin County to his parents, the late John Thomas Eanes and Lula Belcher Eanes.
He married Naomi Wallace Scearce on October 15, 1955. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife on February 14, 2006.
He is survived by sisters, Catherine Watson of Danville, V.A. and Edith Strader, of Pelham, N.C.; and brother, Herbert Eanes and wife, Verona, of Cascade, V.A. He is also survived by four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by brothers, Lewis, Roy, Carlton, and Steve Eanes; and sisters, Frances Griffin and Carrie Gammon.
Glenn attended Coats High School in Coats, N.C., participating in sports and clubs and earned the Future Farmers Award. After high school, he was drafted into the Army's 14th Armored Division in 1942. During WWII, he was a cryptographic technician with the rank of Technician Third Grade. He received the American Service Medal, EAME Service Medal, the Bronze Star Medal, and the WWII Victory Medal. He received his discharge on January 18, 1946.
In 1955, he left Dan River Mills Inc. and moved to Chicago, I.L. to work as chief engineer for Edgewater Beach Hotel. In 1962, Glenn opened a service station and garage business associated with Amoco Oil Company.
Glenn was chairman of the National Gasoline Dealers Advisory Council and the Gasoline Advisory Committee to the Federal Energy Adminstration. He received the I.G.D.A. Industry Award for Meritorious Service in 1974. Glenn was raised a Master Mason of Gil Barnard Masonic Lodge #908 in Chicago in 1960 and remained a member of the lodge for over 50 years. He was associated with Moffett Memorial Baptist Church.
After retirement, he and Naomi moved to Smith Mountain Lake, Union Hall, before moving to Danville, V.A.

Funeral services will be held at Townes Memorial Chapel on Monday, May 23, 2011, at 11 A.M. with the Reverend L. Lee Eggers officiating. Interment will follow in Highland Burial Park. Military honors will be presented by American Legion Dan River Post 1097 and the Virginia Army National Guard. The family will receive friends Sunday, May 22, 2011, from 7 to 8:30 P.M. at Townes Funeral Home, and at other times at the residence of Ronnie Watson, 3760 Cascade Road, Cascade, V.A.
