I currently own the war medals and service information for A.W. Osman and would like to find a living relative. I have found out or have the following:
Born: Thorncombe, Chard. Enlisted: Taunton. Residence: Dorchester. Service History: Medals all show rank of Corporal; original bar, The 1st Bn. Somerset Light Infantry was part of 11th Brigade, 4th Division. Recorded as being “Killed in Action’ on Monday 9 November 1914. At this time the Battalion are recorded as being ‘in the line’ around the village of Erquinghem-Lys. He has no known grave and is commemorated in panel 3 of the Ploegsteert Memorial, Comines-Warneton, Belgium. Documents: Copy MIC confirming KIA, medal and clasp entitlement, date to France 21/8/14. Original Plaque box, photo of Ploegsteert Memorial, plus memorial panel showing Lance Serjeant A. W. Osman, copy Soldiers Died scroll showing Killed in Action, CWGC information and further research.
