The Ballarat Star, Tuesday 10th July, 1906. ......DEATH OF MR. RICHARD GRILLS.... Another honorable and successful career has just closed with the death, which occured on Saturday evening, of Mr. Richard Grills, farmer, of Coghill's Creek, at the ripe age of 81 years. Deceased, who was born in Devonshire, arrived in Victoria in 1863, and for a short time at the Barabool Hills. He afterwards settled down in Coghill's Creek, where he has remained ever since. The late Mr. Grills' name will be remembered in connection with the Ballaratshire tenant farms competitions, he having obtained fifteen first prizes, and then was presented with a retiring medal by the late Sir William Clarke. The deceased gentleman's methods of farming were of the best, and the industry was one in which he took a deep interest and delight. It is not therfore surprising that his labors were so successful. He was an ardent worker in the Coghill's Creek Methodist Church, and was the superintendent of the local Sunday school, which office he held with the greatest of credit to himself and which he won the esteem of the young folk and rendered great and valuable services. He was also leader of a religious class. The late Mr. Grills, whose wife pre-deceased him by five years, leaves a grown-up family of four sons - Messrs. J. W., Joseph, and Thos. Grills of Coghill's Creek, and Richard Grills, of Ascot ( all of whom have farms ), and four daughters - Mrs. John Dunstan ( Ball- arat ), Mrs. Sellwood, Donald, Mrs. T. Turnbull, Coghill's Creek, and Mrs. S. Heard, Barrabool Hills.
