Pemberton J Palmer of Brook Park, Cuyahoga County, Ohio was born on October 23, 1909, and died at age 72 years old in January 1982.
The Goulburn Evening Penny Post. 22nd August 1885.
OBITUARY. - Pemberton Campbell Palmer, Esq.,
whose demise we briefly chronicled previously, was
a scion of one of the oldest and best of the early colonial
families. His father and grandfather were military officers
of high grade; and the deceased gentleman himself in early
life served in the East India Company.
He eventually married and settled at Jerrabomberra, a fine
estate, bordering on the township of Queanbeyan, where
he reared a numerous family, the sons assisting their
father in agriculture and farming pursuits.
Mr. Palmer, though of active and energetic temperament,
did not succeed in life to the extent that might have been
looked for from his favourable surroundings. Still with a
fine estate, and comfortable homestead, his widow and
children are amply provided for. As a citizen he was
generous, and warm in his attachments, though never
much identifying himself with local public movements, or
politics. He was more of a domestic than public man,
though endowed with a fine intellect and all the advantages
that culture could add. For some time prior to his death he
was seriously indisposed, and his symptoms were aggravated by a long-pending law suit, which caused him
great anxiety. His indisposition finally assumed the form of
chronic dropsy, which baffled medical skill to cure, and
ultimately he sank to his rest early on Saturday morning
last, at the age of 58 years.
His was the first corpse laid in the new public cemetery,
about two miles from Queanbeyan on the Tharwa road,
and about the same distance from the Jerrabomberra
homestead.
