Ny Van Vo's History: circa 1943 - 2020

Uncover new discoveries and connections today by sharing about people & moments from yesterday.
  • Introduction

Ny Van Vo loved his family and worked hard to care for them. He organized their escape from Vietnam while he was in a Vietnamese prison. The family escaped from Vietnam in 1977, leaving the eldest daughter to care for his mother-in-law who wanted to stay behind. (The small fishing boat had many families. They were out in the open ocean for two weeks before landing in Thailand. Fortunately, their boat did not encountered pirates unlike the boats that came after them in the following years who suffered many atrocities. Many of these victims died at sea without their relatives ever finding out what had happened to them once they left Vietnam.) The Vo family landed in Fort Smith, Arkansas in March 1978. Eventually, there were a total of seven children born to the Vo family. The youngest being born in August 1979, five girls and two boys. There are many stories of Ny Van Vo. Too many to recount here though. All in all, one can say that he did his best in what was handed down to him from his parents in caring for his own family.
