Michael Zawisky was born on October 5, 1909 in Pennsylvania to parents Nellie Julia and Wasil Zawisky. He had 4 brothers and 5 sisters including Helen, Catherine, and Andrew Zawisky. He was an overseas veteran of World War II and served in the US Army from May 27, 1942 until October 26, 1944. Michael lived in the Forest City area for most of his life and worked for the Erie Railroad.

Michael Zawisky Zawojsky was born on January 12, 1905 in Odrzechowa, Podkarpackie, Poland to parents John Zawiskey and Catharine Zynszak. He had a brother, Stephen Zawisky (1903-1975). On January 30, 1930 he married Mary Anna Palicia (1903-1973) in Bridgeburg, Welland, Ontario, Canada. They had children together including a daughter, Dorothy Irene Zawisky (1931-2004). The family moved to Buffalo, Erie, New York in the 1930's.
