Jean Margaret Russell was born to Thomas Russell (born and raised in Airdrie Scotland) and Elizabeth Pringle Russell (born in SLC Utah, of Scottish descent & Utah pioneer heritage). Jean's siblings were: Thomas, Clyde, Lillian and Glen. Another brother, Cecil, died shortly after birth in April of 1913. Jean married Alfred H. Bennion on June 28, 1948. They were the parents of Sharon Jean, Charlene Louise, Janet Elizabeth and Alfred R. (Fred) Bennion. Jean graduated from West High School then took an additional year of formal schooling. After that, she attended and graduated from LDS Business College. She spent many years as a professional secretary. She worked for Jesse Evans Smith at the Salt Lake City and County Building. She worked at the Utah State Capitol as a secretary for a Mr. McKay and Secretary of State Clyde Miller. Once, the Governor gave her a ride home in his limousine! She and her sister Lillian also lived and worked in San Francisco for a time. Jean typed over 90 words a minute and was excellent at shorthand. Jean left the secretarial profession when she became a mother. She was such a great support for her beloved husband Alfred, in his many LDS Church leadership callings as a bishop and Millcreek stake president counselor in two presidencies. She was always helping friends, some which had serious problems they were dealing with. She was so compassionate. She also served as a counselor in the Relief Society. When Al was bishop, she composed and typed a beautiful Valley Center 2nd Ward newsletter each month for five years! Her beloved only sister Lillian, who was nine years older than Jean, outlived Jean. Lillian was almost 88 when she passed away.

Jean Bennion of Marsing, Owyhee County, Idaho was born on August 29, 1885, and died at age 83 years old in December 1968.
