During the war, the New Zealand Artillery played a crucial role in supporting Allied forces across various theaters of war, including North Africa and Europe. After his time in the military, George was a farmer in Opunake, New Zealand.

He married Ruth Edmunds (1919–2005) on October 26, 1940 in Elwood, Victoria, Australia. George Charles Fewtrell was a member of the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) during the period of 1939-1948. During World War II, he enlisted in the RAAF in Sydney and was assigned the service number 14665.
