Etta Alice Alley was born on August 17, 1877, in Dandridge, Tennessee, to John Anderson Alley (1855-1932) and Electra Thompson Alley (1857-1943). She had two siblings, Willett Cornelious Alley (1880-1973) and Myrtle Alley Rodeffer (1886-1976). Growing up, Etta lived with her parents and maternal grandparents, Zac and Narcissa Thompson, in District 7, Jefferson, Tennessee. She married Jake Lemon (1878-1957) on May 10, 1898, in New Market, Tennessee, and they had five children: Ethel Myrtle Lemon Jones (1901-1994), John Lee Lemon (1904-1925), Charles Bush "Bush" Lemons (1909-1990), Gomer Hal Lemon (1912-1996), and Luther Daniel Lemon Sr (1914-1995). The family resided in Jefferson, Tennessee, and during the 1930s, they lived on Spring Creek Road in District 1, Jefferson. Etta later moved to Coldwater, Kansas, where she passed away on September 22, 1968.
