Dewey Wayne Minteer was born to Clarence Raymond Minteer (1905 - 1980) and Cora Mae Kennedy (1911 - 1948). He had siblings John Andrew (1930 - 2005), Frank (1936 - 1936), and Clarence (1945 - 1945), Jane, and Virginia Minteer.
Dewy Minteer married Vinnie DeCaria on September 16, 1967, and they had three daughters, Mindy, Marcie, and Maria Minteer. They were married for 31 years when he died from a traffic accident. His tanker truck collided with two cars and then caught on fire. He died in the burn unit at Akron Children's Burn Center the next day.
