David F Olster was born in New York on April 30, 1914 to parents Samuel Olster (1893-1968) and Rose Olster (1893-1960). He had brothers Hyman and Mortimore Olster.
He grew up in New York City and David worked for the New York Post Office.
David Olster's military journey began with his draft registration on October 16, 1940, in New York City, Bronx, New York. At the time, he was 26 years old.
On February 11, 1941, David enlisted in the US Army in New York City, New York. He held the rank of Private and served as part of the Selectees (Enlisted Men) component.
David served in the US Army throughout World War II and he was discharged on February 23, 1946.
