Bascom Slemp Nash was born to William Henry Nash (1878 - 1942) and Mary Evelyn Ritchie (1878 - 1940). He had siblings Martha D. (born 1890), Lucy L. (1895 - 1961) and Otis Mckinley Nash (1901 - 1945). Bascom Nash married Goldie Esther Lawson (1922 - 1961) on June 26, 1937 in Wise County, Virginia, and they had three daughters and a son, Shirley Mae (1938 - 1982), Loretta Lou (1940 - 1999), Virginia Lee (1942 - 1998), and Douglas Leon Nash (1945 - 1973). Bascom and Goldie divorced on February 19, 1945. After divorcing Goldie, Bascom married Florence Olivia Yeakley (1926 - 1990). A veteran of World War II, Bascom enlisted in the United States Navy on February 5, 1944 and was discharged on October 22, 1945.
